Englewood Physician Urges People To Protect Skin, Even During Winter

ENGLEWOOD, N.J. -- Taking care of your skin doesn't have to require a surgical procedure. Dr. Dimitri Rabkin of EstheticaMD on Palisades Avenue says it starts with sunscreen.

A through, individualized analysis of the skin is the first step in Dr. Dimitri Rabkin's treatment program.

"Close to 90 percent of skin problems are from sun damage," he said. "The results can be quite remarkable."

Over time, Rabkin came to believe preventative care was possible and preferable to surgical procedures for a younger look.

“No patient is average,” Rabkin says. “We pride ourselves that each patient, and their skin, needs a personal, customizable approach for facial rejuvenation and general anti-aging.

"Treatment plans are based on a very detailed and very thoughtful facial and skin analysis."

Dr. Dimitri Rabkin’s medical training was in ENT and facial reconstruction. He practiced repairing facial deformities and disfiguring injuries for a time, and is director of Minimally Invasive Facial Rejuvenation at the Head and Neck Institute of Lenox Hill Hospital in Manhattan.

Rabkin believes every patient is different, and the proper approach to skin care lies in a thorough, methodical skin analysis.

“We examine skin quality, pigmentation. Certain aspects of aging are really clear -- fine lines and wrinkles, scars, and acne scars are some.”

Rabkin tests every treatment thoroughly, and nothing is put into use until he has proven to his satisfaction it’s effective.

A patient’s lifestyle and personal habits are also considered.

“If we prescribe a course of treatment and it’s not followed, it can’t work," he said. “It’s kind of like exercise. It has to be followed through.”

The right sunscreen can make a "tremendous" difference, the doctor said. It should be worn year-round, even in the winter when driving.
